Albacete: the seriousness of the bull measures the pulse of the season

Ten events featuring serious livestock and the passion of an uncompromising crowd make the Virgen de los Llanos season ticket in Albacete the toughest test of September. Secure your seat at the feria where victory comes at the highest price of the season.

Under the powerful motto “Where the bull is a legend and the crowd is the soul of our celebration”, the 2026 Feria Taurina de la Virgen de los Llanos in Albacete once again emerges as the great mountain pass of the September bullfighting season. If Seville opts for measured lyricism, the capital of La Mancha offers the vibrant atmosphere of a bullring where expectations are at their highest and success comes at the greatest price on the circuit.

The company UTE Casas-Amador, which has, incidentally, renewed its lease agreement, has put together one of the most complete ferias in Spain: a marathon of ten events combining the imposing presence of the bull with the absolute brilliance of the names dominating the bullfighting rankings.

The programme: major season-ticket dates

The Albacete cycle, which runs without interruption from 8 to 17 September 2026, brings together afternoons of enormous anticipation surrounding the livestock with star-studded combinations of matadors:

  • The figures take centre stage – 11 September: Bulls bearing the stamp of Daniel Ruiz will be fought in a sold-out line-up bringing together the mastery of Alejandro Talavante, the dominance of Roca Rey and the unstoppable progression of local matador Samuel Navalón.
  • An afternoon of artistry and courage – 12 September: Bulls from Domingo Hernández will provide the opposition for a historic trio of enormous artistic appeal: the genius of Morante de la Puebla, the uncompromising purity of Paco Ureña and the complete bullfighting of Borja Jiménez.
  • The torista finale: The season ticket does not overlook the diversity of different bloodlines and will conclude with an eagerly awaited competition between breeding farms, featuring specialists of the calibre of Rubén Pinar, Damián Castaño and Cristian Pérez.

Experiencing an event at the Plaza de Toros de Albacete, affectionately known among professionals as “La Chata”, means immersing yourself in an experience with a distinctive character. Its monumental Neo-Mudéjar architecture is unmistakable; the Manchegan bullring is home to one of the most knowledgeable crowds in Spain, respectful yet uncompromising, capable of appreciating both the power required to deal with a strong, well-bred bull and the long, elegant execution of a quality muleta pass.

Unlike the quiet mysticism of other bullrings, the atmosphere in Albacete overflows with electric passion. The crowd encourages, demands and roars when the animal charges with truth and the matador puts everything on the line in the centre of the ring. Leaving the bullring on the shoulders of the crowd through its sober main gate gives matadors a powerful mark of respect as they look towards the Latin American season and the plans for the following year.

The bullfighting season ticket is fully integrated into the legendary Feria de Albacete, a celebration that has been declared an Event of International Tourist Interest. September’s climate on the central Spanish plateau is the perfect ally for visitors: the days enjoy clear skies and very mild temperatures, giving way to cool evenings that are ideal for leisure. This makes the journey to the bullring an especially pleasant walk.

The experience extends well beyond the bullring itself. Once the events have finished, the crowds naturally make their way to the emblematic and historic Recinto Ferial de Albacete, a unique structure shaped like a frying pan, where restaurants, bullfighting discussions and local tapas continue into the early hours in its traditional fairground stands.

Albacete in September is not simply a destination for watching bullfighting; it is a complete immersion in a city that devotes itself entirely to celebrating its most important month. If you have never experienced it, you should — and if you already know it, you will come back. You know you will.
