Tomás Rufo leaves his mark with the left hand at the seventh Albacete bullfight

Tomás Rufo produced the afternoon’s most outstanding moments with the third bull from La Quinta, in a bullfight marked by the quality of several of the bulls and some fine natural-hand bullfighting.

The seventh bullfight of the Feria de la Virgen de los Llanos had Tomás Rufo as one of its main protagonists. The Toledo-born matador found an outstanding opponent in the third bull from La Quinta and made the most of its excellent qualities, particularly with the left hand.

Rufo built his performance around composure, precision and depth. The bull responded with nobility, lowered its head and showed plenty of scope, allowing the matador to produce some of the most accomplished muletazos of the afternoon.

A performance that had been building towards a possible reward was ultimately affected by his difficulties with the sword. Rufo received an ovation from the crowd. With the sixth, he once again showed commitment against a bull that offered less transmission, although he was unable to reproduce the intensity of his first performance.

El Cid finds opportunities with the first bull

Manuel Jesús ‘El Cid’ opened the afternoon with a La Quinta bull that showed mobility and good qualities. The Sevillian matador gradually developed his performance, working from both sides and finding better responses as the faena progressed.

The bull was applauded as it left the arena, while El Cid received an ovation. The fourth bull, however, offered considerably fewer possibilities. With little commitment and limited scope, the Salteras matador could do little more than produce a few isolated moments before the performance faded.

Emilio de Justo rises to the challenge of the second

Emilio de Justo faced a second bull that demanded a different technical approach. The animal had a good start to each pass but tended to lose momentum towards the end, forcing the Extremaduran matador to pay close attention to his positioning and seek greater continuity.

De Justo managed several notable passages with the right hand, although the performance gradually lost momentum. He received applause after dispatching the bull.

He tried again with the fifth, which eventually began to look for the exit. The Extremaduran matador managed to sustain the faena for much of the performance, although the bull’s decreasing willingness to cooperate limited his opportunities. After the sword, he received silence following a warning.

A La Quinta string with several noteworthy bulls

The La Quinta bullfight produced a mixed overall result, although several bulls displayed qualities that allowed the matadors to perform. The first, second, third and fifth bulls were applauded as they left the arena, according to reports published after the bullfight.

The third bull stood out in particular for its nobility and willingness to lower its head, allowing Tomás Rufo to express his style with the left hand. The Toledo matador’s performance was also highlighted through video footage of the faena.

The afternoon featured Manuel Jesús ‘El Cid’, Emilio de Justo and Tomás Rufo, who faced six La Quinta bulls as part of the central stages of the Feria de la Virgen de los Llanos in Albacete.
