Albacete witnessed an unforgettable afternoon of rejoneo – bullfighting on horseback – led by the brilliance of Diego Ventura, who was carried out through the Puerta Grande after cutting four ears in a resounding performance. The Portuguese star added another golden chapter to the Feria de la Virgen de Los Llanos, thrilling the crowd with two masterful exhibitions that had the arena on its feet.
The seventh day of the Albacete fair was dominated by the figure of Diego Ventura, who offered a true display of power, precision and artistry. The Portuguese rejoneador achieved a total of four ears after two performances that captivated the entire arena, confirming his absolute command and his unique connection with the public.
His first masterpiece came against the second bull of the afternoon, a mobile and noble specimen from Los Espartales, which Ventura understood from the outset. With daring quiebros (tight turns on horseback) and spectacular banderillas (barbed sticks placed from the saddle), he electrified the audience before finishing with a precise final thrust that earned him the first two trophies.
The climax arrived with his second appearance, facing the fifth bull. Ventura crafted one of those faenas destined to remain in collective memory: varied, precise and overflowing with emotion. Each pass grew in intensity, culminating in a performance beyond description. The award of two further ears was inevitable, sealing his triumph and ensuring his passage through the Puerta Grande.
The afternoon also had moments of note from Sergio Galán, who produced one of the most complete faenas of the day against the fourth bull. A missed final stroke cost him trophies, though the crowd responded warmly with strong ovations in recognition of his effort.
Meanwhile, Lea Vicens displayed commitment and style. Her two faenas contained passages of quality and connection with the crowd, but a lack of accuracy with the killing stroke denied her any trophies. Even so, the Frenchwoman once again showcased her personality and charisma, keeping the audience engaged throughout.
The bulls from Los Espartales provided a fine spectacle overall, well presented and of varied behaviour, offering opportunities to the three performers.
With this afternoon, Albacete once again confirms its importance as a key arena for rejoneo, while Ventura underlines his position as the undisputed number one in bullfighting on horseback.
